- Calculation of Time in Vedic Astrology in Hindi
Vedic Astrology
The history of Vedic Astrology is very ancient, the knowledge of this oldest history is hidden in the womb of the past. Astrology has been discussed in the verses of Rigveda, this shows how much knowledge of astrology must have been there at that time. The study of astrology was essential, there is some knowledge of astrology even in the wild races because it is needed every day, from here the man started to calculate the time. Special study of astrology was also done at that time, the proof of this is that in Yajurveda, there is a discussion of 'Nakshatradarsha' i.e. the astrologer who sees the constellations and there is a mention of 'constellation' in the Chandogya Upanishad. This shows that the study of astrology was done even at that time, hence astrology has been counted among the six parts of the Vedas since time immemorial.
The Need of Astrology in Ancient Times
At that time the knowledge of astrology was needed by the farmers as well as the priests. Although everyone needed to know some things from time to time, which only astrologers could tell, but the farmer especially wanted to know when the water would rain, and whether the time had come for the sowing of the fields or not and the priest then Wanted to know many things. At that time there used to be year-long yagyas and it was necessary to know how many days are there in the year, when the year started, when it would end, so man started calculating the 'time'.
Units of Time
These days the Panchang has become so simple and its rules have become so easy that it is difficult to imagine that what difficulties must have been faced in ancient times to know all these things. How did we estimate it in ancient times? From this point, there were generally 3 units of measurement of time in ancient times, whose details are as follows:-
First Unit
Even the oldest man must have observed that after day there is night, after night there is day. One night and day in the language of astrology, one night and in ordinary language only day. There was such a unit of measurement of time which must have been constantly present before the attention of man. But this unit would be too small for many purposes. For example, who will go on adding the age of the child, how many days it is and even if he adds 100 days, discomfort will start happening.
Second Unit
Fortunately there was another unit which was almost as important. People must have seen that the moon moves and moves, sometimes it appears completely round, sometimes it remains invisible. It would have been convenient to consider the time from one full moon to the next, or from one new moon to the next as a unit. This unit would have been convenient for measuring several periods of a month or a lunar month, but not all. It would have seemed inconvenient to calculate some long time, such as the age of a human being in terms of months, so a larger unit would have been needed.
Third Unit
But people must have seen that the seasons keep coming again and again in a particular order – winter, summer, rain, then this sequence and this sequence continues forever, so people started time-measurement by telling the number of rains. Will happen. The direct evidence of this is that the word Varsha is derived from rain, and the synonyms of the year are often related to all the seasons such as Sharad, Hemant, Vatsar, Samvatsar, Abd etc. Both Sharad and Hemant are associated with the winter season; Vatsar and Samvatsar mean the period in which all the seasons come at once. Abd means water giver or rain.
Conclusion
In the Calculation of time, a question must have come to your mind that why the beginning of the year was considered to be from the rains, why not with the summer or winter season? So that is because the summer starts slowly and the winter season also starts in the same way, but the rain starts immediately after the arrival of monsoon. Therefore, the beginning of the rain could be calculated easily, so it was considered appropriate to consider the rainfall as the basis of the year. Now the rain may come suddenly or slowly but someday it will come and the day it will come will be the first day of the year and when the rain comes back again on its own time it will be the second year. In this way, if the age of a person is told, then we can say that 74 Vatsar or Samvatsar (ie 1 Vatsar or Samvatsar = once rain, once winter and once summer) i.e. 74 times rain (or 74 year old person) and if 5 If the months are over, then 5 lunar months.
